Register for health insurance

Settle in Québec

To be eligible for the Québec Health Insurance Plan, you must be in one of the following situations. The same conditions apply to accompanying persons (spouse or dependant).

  • You are in Canada and you are an authorized permanent residence applicant holding an approval-in-principle letter from IRCC. You must contact us to register. Your health coverage will start after a 3-month waiting period following your registration.
  • You have obtained refugee or protected person status in Canada. You must contact us to register. You can benefit from health insurance without a waiting period.
  • You are a government-assisted refugee accompanied by a community organization mandated by the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration. You do not need to contact us: this organization will take charge of your application and send us the required documents. You can benefit from health insurance without a waiting period.

If you are a refugee claimant, you are not eligible for health insurance; however, you may be eligible for the Interim Federal Health Program.
