Child

Person under age 18 or student age 18 to 25 who is:

  • studying full time in an educational institution at the secondary-, college- or university level 
  • spouseless
  • living with their parents, and
  • not eligible for a private plan on their own

Persons age 18 or over with a functional impairment also meet the definition of a child. They may continue being covered under their parents’ plan if they are: 

  • spouseless
  • suffering from a functional impairment that occurred before they turned 18, within the meaning or the Regulation respecting the basic prescription drug insurance plan
  • living with their parents or tutor
  • not receiving benefits under a financial assistance program with claim slips (carnet de réclamation)
  • not eligible for a private plan
