The public plan covers the prescription drugs on the List of Medications that are prescribed by a health professional and, in most cases, purchased in Québec.

Everyone who has taken up residence in Québec permanently must have prescription drug insurance coverage. Coverage is available through RAMQ’s public plan.

The Ostomy Appliances Program is intended for persons insured under the Québec Health Insurance Plan who have undergone a permanent or temporary ostomy.
You are not required to pay the annual premium for the Public Prescription Drug Insurance Plan if you were outside Québec from January 1 to December 31.
In certain situations (such as studies, work, 7-year exception), you may be absent from Québec 183 days or more in a calendar year and still remain eligible for health insurance.
You can apply for a reimbursement with your pharmacist for the cost of purchased medications that are usually covered.
